Manager, Donor Engagement

Special Olympics Massachusetts is embarking on a new strategic plan that focuses on revenue and programmatic growth across the state through 2030. The primary area of focus and strategy for this plan is revenue growth through our annual giving from individual donors. The role of Manager, Donor Engagement, will be the first of its kind, with a focus on building a revenue stream of donors that can give in the range of $1,000-$10,0000. They will manage the process of identifying, qualifying, and personally soliciting and cultivating a portfolio of donors who have the capacity to give at that level, or more through Annual Giving. They will work closely with colleagues from other teams to coordinate prospect management activity. The role will require the candidate to meet with donors throughout the state for meetings and will also require them to work nights and weekends. This position is responsible for assisting the entire department and CEO in reaching the annual revenue goals within this new strategic plan.

Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of individual donors, cultivate relationships, solicit gifts, and steward recurring donors
  • Implement a plan that cultivates, solicits, acknowledges, and stewards donors to maximize retention and increase overall giving
  • Conduct donor research on existing and new potential donors
  • Help develop and implement plan for donor communications and stewardship of all donor segments including annual giving, mid-level, and special event supporters
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Development to establish short- and long-term annual giving goals, objectives, and metrics for success
  • Assists in a full range of activities associated with individual donors to include solicitations, stewardship, recognition events and cultivation activities
    • Communication process to promote giving to SOMA
    • Meet with donors and prospects at Special Olympics events and networking events
    • Conduct a minimum number of visits and meetings.  
    • Manage all activities in CRM  
  • Build deep, powerful, and dynamic relationships with current and prospective donors, focused on developing their passions and fulfilling on their expectations of experience and impact
  • Ability to meet donors throughout the state for meetings and at events, that will be during the week, evenings and/or weekends
  • Apply a data-driven approach to set and achieve revenue and relationship goals for the organization, seeing them as opportunities to sell the mission, strengthen communities and partnerships.
  • Represent and speak on behalf of Special OlympicsMassachusetts at various events, conferences, and meetings.
  • Be ready, willing, and able to take on other duties as assigned.

Skills and Background Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years in non-profit fundraising/development, experience working with donors, or similar for-profit client and partner services role.  Sports experience preferred.
  • Experience in writing and preparing fundraising solicitations and gift proposals for donors
  • Previous experience interacting with donors at a high level
  • Proven ability to manage and cultivate donors
  • Demonstrated ability to meet fundraising goals
  • Ability to cultivate and build meaningful relationships with donors for purposes of solicitation and stewardship of gifts
  • The ability and willingness to travel for events to meet new or existing donors
  • The ability and willingness to travel to visits donors for meetings
  • Knowledge of industry fundraising software preferred
  • Experience with a fundraising database and CRM
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, public speaking and sales skills
  • Proficiency inMicrosoft Office suite
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects, and responsibilities
  • Demonstrated capability to conduct oneself in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with people and/or with difficult situations.
  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff, volunteers, and other constituents.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the following skills:

Salary Range

$50,000 - $55,000 per year
