Special Olympics Massachusetts Summer Games is the largest event we run each year. Over 1500 athletes and Unified Partners and 1000 volunteers descend on the Harvard University Athletic Complex for three days of inclusion, sports and fun.

What to Expect: Summer Games Week

From June 2-8, 2025 Special Olympics Massachusetts and an incredible network of partners - corporate sponsors, law enforcement, schools, volunteers, and of course athletes and their families will bring the spirit of Summer Games to communities across the state through Hall of Fame inductions, inclusive school sports, fundraisers, and of course a  Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg, brining the Flame of Hope into Harvard Stadium. The week culminates in the biggest event of the year - Summer Games! Athletes will compete, families and fans will cheer, and volunteers will support competition across five sports. Come spend one, two or seven days with Special Olympics Massachusetts and Experience Inclusion.

So Much Inclusion, We Need Three Days! 

Let's kick things off

Friday night is about celebrating what is to come! We will welcome athletes, coaches, chaperones and family members to Harvard with some of our incredible partners hosting games, and interactive activities. Dinner will be provided for athletes and coaches, and then the magic happens once we kick off Opening Ceremonies you will want to be in your seat to watch the Parade of Athletes, Live Music, a Dance presentation from our inclusive dance program, and of course the arrival of the Flame of Hope escorted to Harvard by the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Competition: Day One

Let the Games officially begin! With competition in track & field, swimming, tennis, volleyball, and powerlifting you are sure to find something to cheer for. While walking between venues, be sure to stop into Olympic Town to grab some freebies, souvenirs, food, and hand some fun. There will be selfie stations around campus, snap a pic and post using #ChooseToInclude and #SOMASummerGames!

8:00 a.m.         Competition Begins

10:00 a.m.       Olympic Town opens - food, souvenirs, giveaways, games and activities all with a DJ keeping everyone entertained

11:30 a.m.        Law Enforcement Cruiser Convoy arrives at Harvard

11:30 a.m.        Lunch served (for Athletes)

4:00 p.m.         Competition Ends

Competition: Day Two

It all comes down to this! The last day to earn bragging rights and gold medals in volleyball, tennis, track & field, and swimming. Olympic Town will be open to fill time between competition and cheering with partners, vendors, and souvenirs. Be sure to grab your souvenirs before you head home.

Exclusive: On Sunday, June 8th, 98.5 The Sports Hub - the number one sports radio station in the United States will highlighting Summer Games with on-air updates and an interview with Special Olympics Massachusetts CEO, Mary Beth McMahon live from Summer Games. Keep an ear out to hear select results from Summer Games announced on air!

Coming to Summer Games? Great!

We're here to make sure you have the best experience attending the largest annual Special Olympics Competition in Massachusetts.

Getting to the Games

Be sure to check directions and travel times to ensure you arrive on time for the competition and other events. If you are coming in fr Friday's Opening Ceremonies, pease be prepared for increased traffic in and around Boston.

Parking

The Soldiers Field Park Garage is the designated parking facility for visitors during Special Olympics 2024. You can purchase a one-day parking permit valid from 7am until 11:30pm. Permits will also be available for purchase on site at HBS Business School lot and at the Soldiers Field Garage.

Opening Ceremonies

Join us for the kickoff to a weekend full of inclusion, joy, and of course, sports competition! Opening ceremonies will feature a parade of athletes, live music, and presentations from Special Olympics leadership. Everything leads up to the arrival of the Flame of Hope and lighting of the Special Olympics Cauldron.

Olympic Town

We are excited to host Olympic Town (our version of a Fan Fest) on the Quad at Harvard's Athletic Complex. You will find food vendors, a souvenir tent, music from our own DJ Mark, and partner organizations with giveaways and information. On Sunday, 98.5 the Sports Hub will broadcast LIVE from Olympic Town!
