For more than three decades, Erin Delahunty has made health, movement, and inclusion a central part of her life. As a longtime Special Olympics Massachusetts athlete, Erin has continually embraced opportunities to stay active, challenge herself, and connect with others through sport. That lifelong dedication to wellness and leadership has earned her the distinction of being named the first Healthy Hero Award recipient of 2026, an honor presented by Point32Health in partnership with Special Olympics Massachusetts and Tufts Health Plan. The Healthy Hero Award recognizes athletes who exemplify physical wellbeing, leadership, and inclusion.

Erin’s commitment to health and wellness extends far beyond competition. As a Global and Health Messenger, she uses her voice to advocate for healthy lifestyles, inclusion, and the power of staying active. Leading by example is something that Erin carries both on and off the field, and this year it will follow her as she represents Team Massachusetts at the Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota, competing in the 1500 meters, 800 meters, and relay events.
One of Erin’s proudest moments came at the 2003 World Games in Ireland, where she earned a silver medal in the 1500 meters, an achievement that continues to inspire her training today. Erin’s enthusiasm for fitness, her willingness to inspire others, and her passion for representing Massachusetts make her a fitting choice to kick off 2026 as Point32Health’s first Healthy Hero of the year.
“Getting this award means a lot to me because I hope other athletes see that taking care of your body and staying healthy can help you reach your goals in life,” Erin shared.
Through this ongoing partnership, Point32Health and Tufts Health Plan continue to reinforce an essential message: wellness belongs to everyone. By recognizing athletes like Erin Delahunty, they affirm their commitment to empowering people with intellectual disabilities to access meaningful health and wellness opportunities.
